COMFORT PLACE TO LEARN - STUDENT LOUNGE IN INASIS BSN

INASIS BSN, Universiti Utara Malaysia, Sintok, Kedah have build more facilities for students to spend their time in a benefit way. Facilities that given in all Inasis are cafe, lab, halls, entertainment room, laundry and also student lounge. So, Inasis BSN also have student lounge with the name called Students Lounge Teratai.

Student Lounge is the most helpful place for students to have a relaxing environment and conditions for studying, group discussion, use ICT, and watch television to relief their mind.

The Student Lounge Teratai equipped with desktop computers, Smart TV’s with WiFi connection, round tables and chairs, plug points, sofa, air conditions and special room. Special room can be used by individual or group of students for discussion purposes and it will not be a disturbance for others and themselves. The special room also can use for meeting or video conferences and this special room can be used by below 10 students.

This student lounge has an assistant, who is responsible for operation of the facilities. The name of the Supervisor is Encik Syafik.

The student lounge can be accessed with student card. Students must care for the student lounge as a part of their house and must keep the computers and work surface clean.

Moreover, there are some rules that students must follow which is food and beverages are not allowed in the lounge, smarts phone or mobile phone must keep in silent and students should not make noise in lounge because it might disturb other students.

Additionally, students must be kind in handling computer equipment because Inasis BSN have limited budgets only for repairs and replacement of broken machines and stolen parts.

The most important rule is academic users come first and non-academic users will be asked to leave if a computer is needed for academic purpose. The computer in Student Lounge Teratai is not to be used for online gambling, viewing pornography, copying copyrighted materials, or engaging in other non-academic related activities.

Inasis BSN student lounge only can used by girls and boys are not allowed because Inasis BSN representing women only. The dress code must be appropriate and sexy attires not allowed.

The supervisor assigned about 10 students to incharge the Student Lounge Teratai and these working students have monthly salary and some are really willing to work in student lounge to earn their extra pocket money.

According to Anis Salina Bt. Mahadzir, student that working in the lounge explained that workers must clean and arrange the table and chairs accordingly and must ensure that all the switches are closed before closing the lounge.

“Most of the time the workers will be doing their own work such as doing assignments and revision while managing the lounge,” said by Anis Salina, the worker of student lounge.

After 8.30pm, more students will be using this student lounge and on holiday also usually around 25 students will be using this facility. The amount of students going to lounge will be less on class time only. Most properly almost 40 to 50 students can use this student lounge at a time.

The worker also said that she can divides her time properly for studies and managing the lounge and usually the students who work in lounge can arrange their time according for their preferences.

According to Izzati Alysa Binti Hambali, worker in student lounge said that the problem they facing in student lounge is noise environment when more users in student lounge and some will talk loudly which will disturb others. So, this problem will be solved by using non-verbal signs to talk slow and to be silent.

Thus, Student Lounge Teratai is the most preferable place for students Inasis BSN and female students from other inasis can use the lounge for multiple facilities such as doing assignment, discussion and can watch television. The smart television can use for assignment purpose, for short film, as a background of presentation, YouTube and so on.

The environment in student lounge is very clean and were set as perfect place to study and the arrangements are more preferable for using. Therefore, students must be more responsible towards

Student Lounge Teratai because these facilities mainly for students and this make students to live in a comfortable environment.
